Credits
Credits are only spent when you run a service. Right now Live Recordings and Monitoring draw from your balance, and Download Recorded Spaces will join them soon.
Recording Charges
Live recordings cost 5 credits per hour recorded.
Each session has a 2 credit minimum, and we do not charge for recording requests that fail to start.
Want the step-by-step flow? Skip ahead to the Live Recordings guide.
Monitoring Charges
Monitoring uses 1 credit per username per week.
For example, monitoring 10 usernames for 4 weeks consumes 40 credits, covering around-the-clock checks during that period.
To see how monitoring works in practice, head to the Monitoring section.
Live Recordings
Live Recordings watch a username you provide and capture the audio if that person is hosting, co-hosting, or speaking in an X Space. When the Space wraps up (or you hit your time limit) we process the stream into a widely supported audio file and make it available for download.
Downloads follow the naming pattern [username]_[year]-[month]-[day], for example
elonmusk_2025-10-30, so they are easy to sort and archive.
Starting a Recording
Begin from the Live Recordings page and click "Start a Recording." Enter the username for the host, co-host, or speaker you want to capture and submit the request. We locate the active Space and start recording. A blinking "Recording" badge confirms the session is underway.
Stopping a Recording
Locate the active session you want to finish and click the red "Stop" button. We process the captured audio and publish the download in your Files view as soon as it completes.
Extending a Recording
You can set a maximum duration when you submit a recording request. If the Space keeps going and you want to stay with it, click "Extend Length," move the slider to choose the additional time, and confirm. Each extension adds at least one hour.
Troubleshooting
Most recording errors happen when the username is not currently part of a Space. If that occurs you will see a clear message explaining the issue.
Heavy load on X's infrastructure can occasionally prevent us from retrieving the data we need to begin a session. If a popular Space stalls a request, add the host to Monitoring so we continue retrying until the recording starts.
Still stuck? Email support@recordspaces.com with the affected username, what you attempted, and any error details. If your report exposes a bug we fix, we will credit your account as thanks.
Monitoring
Monitoring automatically starts recording whenever the target user is hosting or participating in a Space, including when they join as a co-host or guest speaker.
We periodically check for their presence in an active Space, and immediately trigger a recording when we detect one.
Check frequency adapts to overall system load. During quieter periods we check roughly every 15 minutes; at peak demand intervals can stretch to about an hour, though we rarely approach that limit.
Options
You can control how long we monitor a user to manage credit usage. It is also possible to set a maximum length for any automatic recording; for instance, limiting sessions to three hours ensures each capture stops at that mark even if the Space continues. Both settings help you stay within budget.
